A Mix of Art and Music for the Holidays

Eleven galleries welcome guests Thursday night for a holiday art crawl in downtown Monroe and West Monroe.  The evening features artist talks and live music at several venues as part of the celebration.  "It's a variety of holiday art, from paintings to sculpture, even jewelry" says Downtown Arts Alliance Communications Consultant Ann Bloxom Smith.

China's Approach To Immigration

Immigration and border security have proven to be global concerns.  Recently, University of Louisiana at Monroe professor Dr. Robert Hanser presented on the topics to the Chinese People's Armed Police Academy.  He notes the similarities of how both the U.S. and China approach the difficult issues.  The visit brought about collaborations between ULM's Criminal Justice program and the academy. 

Homelessness and The Politics of Space

The definition of homelessness has evolved over time.  Addressing the issue and working toward viable solutions is a debate in itself.  University of Colorado's Dr. Chad Kautzer shares research in a presentation on homelessness, security, and space.  Kautzer's visit is part of the Traveling Scholar Series at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

ULM Honors Veterans

The University of Louisiana at Monroe hosted a Veteran's Day ceremony Tuesday in the ULM Library Conference Center.  Louisiana National Guard Brigadier General Dr. Charles Chappuis gave a keynote address during the ceremony.  ULM President Dr. Nick Bruno recognized veterans in a pinning ceremony that concluded the program.

ULM, Delta Strengthen Ties

  The University of Louisiana at Monroe and Louisiana Delta Community College signed a second Memorandum of Understanding in as many weeks.  The new agreement gives greater access to educational resources for both campuses.

Candidates Press Top Priorities In Debate

 The two candidates vying for the 5th District seat faced off in a debate Thursday night at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.  Mayor Jamie Mayo and Dr. Ralph Abraham began and concluded the discussion with focus on their priority should they be elected.  Mayo stressed the need for a comprehensive plan to convey needs of all 24 parishes in the district.  Abraham hopes to bring jobs to the district through a number of projects.

 

Holiday Arts Light Up Ruston

  The North Central Louisiana Arts Council's 17th Annual Holiday Arts Tour is this weekend.  In addition to 35 locations participating in the event, live music is heard throughout downtown Ruston.  Special attractions this weekend include poetry readings, Sprout Sunday, and the Community Variety Show.
