Catherine Calhoun

Associate Producer, Lagniappe

Catherine Calhoun is a sophomore Spanish Major and Communications Minor at the University of Louisiana Monroe, and plans on being a translator when she graduates.

Originally from West Monroe, she lives on campus for her first time "away" from home.

Catherine is very involved in the Wesley Foundation on campus and is part of the Warhawk Tennis Club. When not on campus, she volunteers at Foundry on Sunday mornings as part of the Foundry Kids team and teardown crew.

Catherine enjoys Disney movies, kayaking, and writing.

The Twin City Ballet is getting ready for their Christmas production, An Annie Christmas. The musical starts Tuesday, November 29th with school shows and ends with the Christmas Gala performance on Saturday, December 3rd.

This year's Christmas program is a holiday twist on the classic story of Annie. The ballet will have well known songs like Tomorrow, Maybe, and A Hard Knock Life along with traditional characters like Daddy Warbucks, Rooster, Miss Hannigan, and of course Annie and her friends.

Thursday, November 17th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tonore's is opening their doors for the Tonore Holiday Wine Tasting. This year the proceeds from the event will go to the Quota Club of Monroe.

Quota of Monroe is a community service organization of women that give back to the community. All of the money Quota earns is put back out in the different organizations in the community. Quota works with Clara Hall Elementary School, the Food Bank, the Signing Santa program that gives hearing impaired children a Santa experience, and other community organizations.

Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker kicks off its United States and Canadian tour in Baton Rouge, and will be at​ the Jack Howard Theare in Monroe Monday, November 21st at 7 p.m. The Great Russian Nutcracker has been preformed in the United States by the Moscow Ballet since 1993.

Phoebe Mathys was an artist with the Ouachita River Art Gallery and an educator at Louisiana Tech University. Thursday, November 17th from 6 to 8 p.m., the Ouachita River Art Gallery invites artists and friends to join them in honoring her life. 

Phoebe Mathys helped the Ouachita River Art Gallery gain credibility because of her art. The gallery will show  a private collection of Phoebe's art. Lisa Spann and Rod Allen Payne will be performing music, and the event includes refreshments.

Traveling around the country in a Subaru, Amanda Neiman and Gregory Smith are Subaru Traveling Trainers for the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics. This Saturday, November 12th at 10 a.m. in the Black Bayou Educational Center, they will be speaking on  techniques and common sense reminders about conserving the environment.

America Recycles Day is a way to get communities and families thinking about and participating in recycling.

The Biedenharn Museum and Gardens is hosting the Great American Songbook in concert Saturday, November 4th at 7 p.m. The concert will feature Cory Trahan, Lisa Lee Phifer, and Richard Seiler, a local trio of ten years.

This Saturday's concert will be held to honor Tommy Usrey's retirement as President of the Northeast Louisiana's Arts Council. The trio will be performing some of their favorite American classics from Broadway and jazz to pop repertoire.
