Deborah Chandler

Host and Producer

Deborah is Director of Choral Activities at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, is conductor and musical director of the Monroe Symphony Chorus, and is Minister of Music at Northminster Church in Monroe.

At Florida State University, Dr. Chandler studied with Dr. Andre Thomas, Rodney Eichenburger, Dr. Judy Bowers, and Dr. Kevin Fenton. She serves as chairperson for the Louisiana American Choral Directors Repertoire and Standards Committee for Colleges and Universities. For over eighteen years, she served as a Director of Music in the Presbyterian Church (USA) denomination.

She is also conductor emeritus of the Tallahassee Civic Chorale and a member of the American Choral Directors Association, Music Educators National Conference.

South Pacific is an old-time, yet modern love story. It's similar to Romeo and Juliet. Girl meets boy. They fall in love, but their love is forbidden. Love is forbidden due to deeply held prejudices.  Strauss Theatre Center presents Rodgers and Hammerstien's South Pacific: In Concert with the Monroe Symphony Orchestra.  

The Strauss Youth Academy for the Arts (SYAA) discuss summer workshops.

 The Strauss Youth Academy for the Arts (SYAA) will be hosting theatre workshops throughout the month of July.  Each workshop will teach participants basic skills and techniques  for theatre communication. Workshops are themed according to each theatre technique being taught.  

SYAA Intern Grace Cummings says workshops are open to all children. "We want all the kids to come and join us and have a fun summer." Cummings says.
