Area Schools Ask Community for School Supply Donations

The West Monroe/West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce and Adopt-A-School are organizing a community-wide school supply drive.

In the wake of the floodwaters, area schools are in desperate need of school supplies lost or damaged by the high waters.

The West Monroe/West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with the Adopt-A-School organization to organize a community-wide school supply drive.

"We know that some of our schools that did sustain damage, and that we have many students across Ouachita Parish that lost everything -- including their school supplies. We're trying to do what we can as a community to help," explains WMWO Chamber President Courtney Hornsby. This is a crucial time for school children, as the school year's end approaches, and student prepare for finals. 

Items needed include:

  • Backpacks
  • Notebooks
  • Pens
  • Pencils
  • Paper (both copy paper and loose-leaf)
  • Crayons
  • Highlighters
  • Dry Erase Markers
  • Folders
  • Binders

The Chamber is collecting supplies in time for children to return from spring break. Several local business are partnering with the Chamber to serve as drop-off location for supplies
School Supplies can be left at the following locations:

  • The WMWO Chamber of Commerce
  • Any Ouachita Valley Credit Union location
  • Any Raising Cane's location
  • A-1 Lock and Key
  • Skatetown
  • Keller Williams Realty
  • Macaroni Kid

Kirby Rambin is a natural entertainer, having played violin since the age of 9 and performing publicly since he was just 12. As a teen, he performed with the Monroe Youth Symphony and the Louisiana All-State Orchestra.
