Art Crawl at ULM Brings New Voices

ULM CAES

The University of Louisiana at Monroe’s Spring Art Crawl brings together the works of students, faculty and local artists.

Arely Castillo, coordinator of marketing for the ULM College of Arts, Education and Sciences explains that following the success of last year’s event, the college decided to expand the event. This year it begins at 5:00 Thursday February 17, and features even more galleries and exhibits.

Breard Gallery features the works of Vitus Shell, whose work is also displayed in the Masur Museum. His art is typically very vibrant and holds a sense of social consciousness.

Walker Gallery holds a very selective body of works. Featuring works of many different styles, this new gallery sits across from the Dean’s office, and contains some of the finest student works.

The second floor of Stubbs Hall also will display the works of students and faculty member Dr. Mara Loeb, whose nature-based art incorporates wood, ceramics, and precious stones.

“All of the work is for sale. As a matter of fact, I got work last time near a student named Ansell Jordan. I have his piece in my office and it’s still just as beautiful. It really means a lot when someone buys art from the students,” says Castillo.

The Art Crawl happens this year in conjunction with the ULM Guitar Festival. Guitar students will be playing in all of the galleries – offering a preview for their concert later in the evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Emy-Lou Beidenharn Recital Hall.

Kirby Rambin is a natural entertainer, having played violin since the age of 9 and performing publicly since he was just 12. As a teen, he performed with the Monroe Youth Symphony and the Louisiana All-State Orchestra.
