CA Studio Presents: The Great Gatsby

Apr 10, 2018

CA Studio presents “The Great Gatsby" April 13 and 14 at 7 p.m. at The Bridge Church in Ruston and April 19 and 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Biedenharn Museum and Gardens.

"The Great Gatsby" is the tale of Jay Gatsby and his tragic affair with Daisy Buchanan as told through the eyes of Nick Carraway, Daisy's cousin. The play is set in the Roaring Twenties and features extravagant parties, speakeasies, and the sense of idealism present in that time.

On preparing for their roles, actors Sam Coleman and Jackson Culp say that it's just a matter of "doing your research."  Coleman, who is playing Nick Carraway, first read the book on a car trip after finding out that CA Studio would be performing the play. He states that after reading it, he could see why the book has lasted in literature.

Culp states that much of the mood of extravagance in the play is established through music, lighting, and costumes. He also says he loved the 2013 movie version starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, and he takes inspiration from that version for his portrayal of Gatsby.
