VINCE MARSALA:  We have some  sad  news to report this morning, former LSUS Chancellor  Vince Marsala who retired in 2012,  died yesterday.  A  native  of  Monroe, LA - -  Dr. Marsala  began  his  career  at LSUS  in 1967, teaching  Louisiana  Government,  History, and  Latin-American History… it  was  also  the   same  year  the LSUS  campus  opened.    Dr. Marsala  would  later  go  on to  serve  as  Chancellor  for  17  years.  Current  LSUS  Chancellor  Larry  Clark  had  this  to say about  Dr. Marsala’s  contributions  to  LSUS.   "No chancellor will ever have more devotion than Vince Marsala did.  Vince started on day one 50 years ago as a faculty person, " Clark remincised " and he saw the university through the years since then in many different leadership roles."  Marsala was known mostly as LSUS Chancellor for 17 years before retiring in 2012.  Chancellor Clark added,  " When I came back to become chancellor, Vince would always remind me that it was about the students . He would say that's the reason why we're here." Dr. Marsala is credited for guiding LSUS through the difficult budget years and helping expand degree programs offered.

As far as what Dr. Marsala will be remembered for,   his lasting legacy will be the beauty of the campus as well as his support of establishing public radio station KDAQ which is the flagship station of the Red River Radio network that has affiliate stations in Magnolia-Eldorado, Ark;  Lufkin-Nacogdoches, Tx;  and Alexandria-Pineville, La.   Says Chancellor Clark "Vince Marsala was always very supportive of public radio and was very proud of the fact that LSUS serves as home for public radio for this region."

Visitation  for  Dr. Vince Marsala will be this Sunday from 1 to 3pm  at  Rose Neath Funeral Home  at 1815 Marshall Street in Shreveport.   His funeral is scheduled  for 10am  Monday  at  St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church on Flournoy Lucas Road.   Vincent Marsala  was  82  years  old.
