Man Jailed in Connection with Theft that Led to Power Outage

An arrest has been made in connection with a break-in at a power company substation that resulted in a power outage in New Orleans in June.

The New Orleans Advocate reports that 32-year-old Rickey Telsede was jailed Monday and faces charges including unauthorized entry into a critical infrastructure and theft of copper.

Police believe Telsede cut through a chain link fence and stole copper wire at an Entergy substation near the Superdome early on June 29.

To replace the equipment, Entergy had to cut power at the substation. That meant an outage lasting about two hours for more than 6,000 customers in parts of the Central Business District and other neighborhoods.

Telsede was being held on $35,000 bond Monday and is set for a hearing Oct. 9.
