Monroe Symphony Provides 'Anchor in the Storm'

The Monroe Symphony Orchestra teams up with United Way for the "Anchor in the Storm" fundraiser.

The receding floodwaters have left many North Louisiana residents with a sincere appreciation of their community. The Monroe Symphony Orchestra is no exception. The symphony closes out its 45th season with a fundraiser called "Anchor in the Storm" benefiting both the orchestra and the United Way.

"One of the reasons we named this 'Anchor in the Storm' is that while we were in the planning process of this party -- the flood hit. We thought there is no way we can have this party in the middle of all this stuff people are trying to get through," explains MSO Board of Governors member Aleta Eley," Then we thought, well what if we are able to give back to the community in some way? So we are very fortunate that the United Way was willing to team up with us on this one."

Part of the proceeds of the event will go to the United Way's Flood Response and Recovery Fund, which is dedicated to Northeast Louisiana.

"We feel like the MSO is a part of Monroe, and this is our opportunity to give back," says Eley.

The event will take place at the home of Ileta Rutherford at 3500 Lake Desiard Drive overlooking the bayou. Entertainment will be provided by Josh Madden, and beignets and a food truck will also be on hand. For more information visit the Monroe Symphony Orchestra's website, or call 812-6761.

Kirby Rambin is a natural entertainer, having played violin since the age of 9 and performing publicly since he was just 12. As a teen, he performed with the Monroe Youth Symphony and the Louisiana All-State Orchestra.
