Looking for a good read? You might find one at the second weekend of the Monroe Symphony League bi-annual book sale, which is March 9 and 10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
"The Monroe Symphony League is a non-profit group of people whose main goal is to promote the cause of good music and music education," says Monroe Symphony League member and volunteer Jorenda Stone. The group supports local organizations and events such as the Monroe Symphony Orchestra, the Sound Safari, the Marjorie Stricklin Emerging Artists Competition, and New Music on the Bayou.
Twice every year, the Monroe Symphony League hosts a book sale to raise funds to continue supporting local music. The sale is made up of donated, gently-used books, magazines, and reference books. There is also a media section, which has cassettes, audiobooks, and vinyl records. This year's sale special is Christmas items, including everything from cookbooks to decorating.
