Early yesterday morning, 14th September, a crash involving two vehicles killed two men that were not wearing a seat belt.
Troopers responded to the crash around 5:45 a.m., which occurred on LA Highway 124 near the Winn/LaSalle Parish line. The crash involved a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by David E. Lincecum, 26, of Grayson, LA and a 1993 Peterbilt (18 wheeler, loaded log truck), driven by Michael R. Humphries, 55 yrs, of Jena, LA. The Chevrolet was eastbound on LA Highway 124 when Lincecum lost control and crossed the centerline into the westbound lane. This action resulted in the Chevrolet colliding head-on with the westbound Peterbilt.
Lincecum was not wearing his seat belt and was pronounced dead. His only two passengers, identified as Logan P. Franklin, 22 yrs, of Olla, LA and Taylor L. Trokee, 24 yrs, of Colfax, LA, were not wearing their seat belt. Franklin was pronounced dead. Both Trokee and Humphries received minor injuries, but refused aid.
Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes.
Troop E Troopers have investigated 29 fatal crashes in 2017, resulting in 36 fatalities.
