The School of Humanities of the presents the French Film Festival starting on September 22, in Stubbs 100 at 6:30 p.m.
With collaboration between the History and World Language Programs, there will be eight French film showings throughout the year. The French films were carefully selected incorporating history, language, culture and fine arts in each production.
The University of Louisiana Monroe has offered courses in which lessons align with the French films to make it a fuller experience for the students. ULM History Professor Dr. Christopher Blackburn hopes the films gain the attention of a wide variety of students. “It would be great if these films spark an interest with new students and inspires them to enroll in courses” said Dr. Blackburn.
The very rich French culture has influenced our own in many ways.
The French Film Festival is an opportunity to provide viewers with new experiences, ideas, and prospective on French history. These eight films will give a better understanding of culture during different times of history.
Dr. Chris Michaelides, Associate French Professor, is a strong believer that film showings are an important social part of campus life. “I hope viewers leave the showing talking about what they just saw. These films invite discussion that students, faculty, and the rest of the community would not have had if not for the film,” said Dr. Michaelides.
Director of the School of Humanities, Ruth Smith, recognizes the impact the French’s culture has had on ourselves. “The very rich French culture has influenced our own in many ways, and the French film series allows our history and French programs to work collaboratively to bring to the campus and community films that are entertaining and instructional,” states Dr. Smith.
All eight films will be shown at 6:30 p.m. in Stubbs 100. This event is fully open to students, faculty, and the community and admission is free. The films and dates are listed as follows:
