Water Sweep takes place Sept. 19

Volunteers and boaters take to the waters and shoreline of the Ouachita River in a water sweep on Saturday, September 19th.

The 10th annual event is presented by Ouachita Green.  The collaboration includes beautification agencies in Monroe, West Monroe, and Ouachita Parish.  "This effort gives us greater coverage and communication," says Keep Monroe Beautiful Executive Director Gregg Smith.

Smith says the initiative continues to grow in participation and awareness.  "We're seeing less trash and debris that has been recently tossed along the river and other outlets.  More volunteers are getting to areas where things appear to have been settled for awhile," he said.

Volunteers can meet up at any of seven launch sites.  Supplies are provided for the cleanup, which runs from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.   Smith encourages boat owners to participate.  Information at: ouachitagreen.org
