Woman Accused of Stealing Charitable Bingo Money

A Louisiana woman accused of stealing nearly $73,000 worth of charitable bingo money has been arrested.

Nola.com/The Times-Picayune reports 36-year-old Ashley Brignac was arrested Wednesday and charged with theft valued at $25,000 or more. The funds were stolen from the Gretna Historical Society, which preserves five historic buildings and artifacts in Gretna.

An investigation by the Louisiana Department of Revenue's Office of Charitable Gaming found that nearly $73,000 had not been deposited into the organization's checking account.

According to an arrest report, Brignac was tasked with counting the group's charitable bingo receipts. Investigators later determined she failed to make 18 deposits during a six-week period.

It's unclear if Brignac has a lawyer.
