Accident

Monroe Police Officer Ayrian Williams died Monday night while trying to assist her fellow officers in south Monroe. The accident happened around 6:45 p.m. when her police car attempted to avoid a road hazard on S. 8th Street in Monroe.  Her vehicle left the roadway and impacted a large tree. Emergency medical personnel took the officer to St. Francis Hospital where she died due to her injuries. 

A Monroe Police officer died while responding to a radio dispatch call. The accident happened at 7 p.m. on Monday. The officer was killed after her police car left the roadway and struck a tree on S. 8th Street in Monroe.  

The name of the officer has not been released pending notification of the family.

Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Investigators are currently investigating the death of a 3 month old infant.  Deputies responded to the Ouachita Fire Dept. Station on Blankston Road at approx. 11:30 pm.  Wednesday evening.

A Dubach man died yesterday after the vehicle he was driving traveled into the opposing lane of traffic and struck another vehicle head-on.

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry is recuperating after breaking six ribs in a snowboarding accident over the Mardi Gras holiday.

The accident happened in Montana, where Landry was on vacation with his family. The Republican attorney general said he fell during whiteout conditions that rolled in while he was snowboarding down a mountain, making him unable to see his own boots.

In a phone interview Tuesday, Landry said his travel schedule - and his ability to talk - are limited because of discomfort. But he says he's been working from his home in Broussard.

The chief of a Louisiana fire department was investigating a traffic accident when he was struck and killed by a car on an icy highway.

State police say in a news release that winter weather was a factor in the Wednesday morning accident that killed 48-year-old Russell Achord.

Kansas Man Killed in Crash

Madison Parish – Yesterday afternoon, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Manhattan, KS.

Troopers responded to the crash around 3:30 p.m., which occurred on Interstate 20 east of Tallulah. The crash involved a 1993 Chevrolet van, driven by Jon J. Held (W/M 62 yrs). The Chevrolet was eastbound on Interstate 20 when Held lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a tree. 

Held was wearing his seat belt, but was pronounced dead at the scene. 

 Authorities are trying to determine how a 17-month-old girl wound up in a road where she was struck and killed by a truck.

The girl was struck Monday afternoon in St. Tammany Parish, while the toddler was visiting her grandmother's home in the Slidell area.

St. Tammany Parish sheriff's Capt. Daniel Seuzeneau said investigators were not yet sure how the toddler wound up in the path of oncoming traffic.

Dump Truck Accident Kills One

Shortly before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a crash on LA 34 at the intersection of Philpot Road.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 1998 Toyota 4-Runner, driven by 19-year-old Paul Robbins of West Monroe, LA, was stopped on Philpot Road preparing to make a left turn onto LA 34. For unknown reasons, Robbins made a left turn onto LA 34, into the path of a 2000 Mack Dump truck, driven by 43-year-old Thomas Allen of Calhoun, LA.

A hunter in Union Parish was killed in a fatal A. T. V. accident. The Union Parish Sheriff's Office confirmed that the man was killed on Sunday after the A. T. V. he was riding flipped over.

The accident happened Sunday afternoon in Marion, Louisiana.  

Sheriff Dusty Gates says 55-year-old Robert Michael Phillips from Arizona was hunting and was killed in the accident.

It is thought that Phillips died instantly when the vehicle rolled over onto him while traversing a hill. He was from Spring Valley, Arizona.
