A huge converting and logistics facility will be built in Ouachita Parish near Ouachita High School and the now vacant Guide Plant. The facility will house Graphic Packaging’s Carton Folding Plant and DHL’s Logistics and Distribution Operation.  The 1.27 million square foot facility will be bigger than the Louisiana Superdome.

DHL will construct the building and the adjoining distribution center. The total construction investment for the new Monroe facility will be over $84 million.

The Ouachita River system is in a perilous situation. The lack of commercial barge traffic on the river may mean reduced federal funds for dredging and repairs to locks and dams. This lack of upkeep has forced some shippers off the river and if total commercial tonnage doesn’t pick up the river could return to a natural state.

Randy Denmon of Ouachita River Valley Association (ORVA) will be a panelist at KEDM’s Policy and a Pint: Ouachita Runs Dry. We will discuss the dangers of a declining river system.

By now you’ve probably figured out that something has changed.

A lot of us thought we would be a lot closer to being able to retire by now. But for many in their 50s and 60s, retirement isn’t exactly over the next hill.

In fact, there are a lot of people who will be waiting quite a while longer before they are able to retire.

But while you are waiting, consider the difference between waiting in line at Disney World or waiting in line at the drivers license bureau. Both involve waiting, but the sense of anticipation could not be more divergent.

In today's world of mass production, many products seem to be manufactured in other parts of the world. Louisiana Tech University is showcasing products and ideas created in north Louisiana.

"You've probably heard it said that we don't make anything in America anymore, and that it's all made somewhere else -- and there is some truth to that. But here in north Louisiana we make a lot of things, and we decided that we wanted to put together a calendar of activities and events showing off things that people make," explains Chief Innovation Officer Dr. Dave Norris.

A plan means nothing if it's not implemented. Financial planning is only the beginning of the process. Reaping the rewards of said plans requires being plugged in to the end.
