A Hard Freeze Warning is in effect for much of the KEDM listening area for Wednesday night.

Freezing temperatures will continue across much of the region today, then plummeting shortly after sunset tonight back into the teens and possibly upper single digits in some outlying and more rural areas. * TIMING...9 PM tonight through 9 AM Thursday. * IMPACT...Take precautions to cover exposed pipes and bring pets indoors as well as protect any sensitive outdoor plants.

Mississippi's corrections department says Edgar Ray Killen, a former Ku Klux Klan leader who was convicted in the 1964 'Mississippi Burning' slayings of three civil rights workers, has died in prison at the age of 92.

The part-time preacher and lumber mill operator was 80 when a Neshoba County jury convicted him in 2005 of three counts of manslaughter.

Area children and their families will benefit from a new facility that will house an established community service: The Children’s Coalition for Northeast Louisiana. The Coalition kicked off the “Commit to the Brick” capital campaign, a fundraising initiative that will support the new building located at 117 Hall Street in downtown Monroe.

Suspect In Homicide May Be At Large In Lincoln Parish

During the pre-dawn hours of Thursday, July 6, 2017, deputies with the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Department recovered a stolen 2001 Ford Taurus, gold in color that was earlier involved in a homicide in Jackson, MS. This vehicle, which was owned by the victim of the homicide, was recovered in the area of US 80 at Peachland Trailer Park.

Authorities say a woman who dropped her purse inside a medical clinic caused an accidental gunshot that wounded a bystander.

 WAPT-TV reports that the woman on the fourth floor of the Lakeland Family Medicine Center in Jackson when she dropped the purse around 11 a.m. Thursday.

 Authorities said the gun fired, striking another person who has been hospitalized. The wounded person's condition wasn't immediately available.

 The station reports that the clinic is affiliated with the University of Mississippi Medical Center. 

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Jackson police are on the scene of a hostage situation on the city's south side. 

Police Chief Lee Vance tells local media outlets 11 or 12 people were in the rooming house at the time that the hostage situation began about 5 a.m. Thursday. 

Vance say police have rescued at least six people that were in the home.  

No injuries have been reported.

 Vance says police have identified the suspect, but are not yet releasing that information.
