Southern University has signed a contract for the school's medical marijuana program with a firm struggling with its ownership structure.  

Southern said Thursday that the contract has been signed with the two biggest owners of Advanced Biomedics. The majority owner, Carrol Castille, and the founder and minority owner, Chad Bodin, have been battling in a Lafayette court for weeks. The contract was signed on assurances that the company is working to resolve the ongoing feud. 

Louisiana Department of Health announces that 37,000 medicaid enrollees eligibility may end on July 1, 2018.

Unemployment fell again in Louisiana in February, as payrolls rose.The jobless rate fell to 4.5 percent in February from 4.6 percent in January, as more people entered the labor force and more found jobs. Louisiana's unemployment rate was 5.7 percent a year ago.About 95,000 Louisianans were jobless, down about 2,000 from January.February's U.S. unemployment rate was 4.1 percent, the same as in January but below February 2017's 4.7 percent.

The investigation into the theft of commercially delivered packages at residences in the Arkansas Road and other areas has led to warrants being issued for two suspects believed responsible.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service are predicting winter weather will move into the region Monday night and into Tuesday morning. An Arctic cold front will bring extreme cold after sunset on Monday. Rain will transition to sleet and snow. 1/2 to 2" of snow are possible with 2-3" in northwest Louisiana and southwest Arkansas. 

Travel could become difficult because of slushy roadways and bridges.  Temps won't get back above freezing until Wednesday afternoon. The system will produce temperatures low as 15 degrees.

ULM Responds To Offensive Social Media Incident

Wednesday it was brought to the attention of University of Louisiana Monroe administration that an offensive social media exchange on private accounts had been made public.

The comments were in violation of the ULM Code of Student Conduct and were reportedly made by members of a campus fraternity.

The matter was turned over to President Nick J. Bruno and the Office of Student Affairs.

Area children and their families will benefit from a new facility that will house an established community service: The Children’s Coalition for Northeast Louisiana. The Coalition kicked off the “Commit to the Brick” capital campaign, a fundraising initiative that will support the new building located at 117 Hall Street in downtown Monroe.
