The Easter Eggstravaganza is one of the zoo's biggest events of the year. Director of the zoo, Joe Clawson, shares that, "The event is to raise money, but it is also to share with the community what's been going on at the zoo. We're really proud of what the staff has accomplished."

The Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo had an early visitor this morning.  At 2 a.m., officers attempted to pull over a car that led the police on a 30 minute city wide high speed chase.

The chase ended when the vehicle crashed into 2 animal habitats at the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo.

The suspect, Javarro Eleam, was arrested and the animals were not hurt.

Eleam is currently being held in the Ouachita Correctional Center with a $1,000 bond. Charges include damage to property, resisting an officer, reckless operation, and aggravated flight.

Nestled in south Monroe lies the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo. The "Monroe Zoo" as it is often affectionately called, debuts a new member to its animal family, and hosts a day of festivities at its annual Zoobilation event on Saturday, August 6.

Moving into the Australia Exhibit that day is the zoo's newest addition, The New Guinea Singing Dog. Looking like a smaller version of a dingo, this is the rarest breed of dog in the world, and is known for its unique howl. There are fewer than 200 of these dogs in the world.

Smiles and squeals of excitement surrounded the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo newest addition.  A Playscape area for children officially opened.

A number of boys and girls from area schools immediately put the playground to good use.  Zoo Director Joe Clawson says this attraction fits well into a dedicated children’s area for visitors.  "This is a natural addition to our children's garden and greenhouse," he said.
