Summer is finally here, and it's the perfect time to pick up a good book. The Monroe Symphony League is hosting a book sale Saturday and Sunday, June 2-3 and Friday and Saturday, June 8-9 in the MSL Book Room.

Looking for a good read? You might find one at the second weekend of the Monroe Symphony League bi-annual book sale, which is March 9 and 10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

"The Monroe Symphony League is a non-profit group of people whose main goal is to promote the cause of good music and music education," says Monroe Symphony League member and volunteer Jorenda Stone. The group supports local organizations and events such as the Monroe Symphony Orchestra, the Sound Safari, the Marjorie Stricklin Emerging Artists Competition, and New Music on the Bayou.

Come see young artists shine at the Marjorie Stricklin Emerging Artists Competition Saturday, January 13th in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall.

The Marjorie Stricklin Emerging Artist Competition is hosted by the Monroe Symphony League as a fundraiser for the Monroe Symphony Orchestra, as well as a chance to seek out local young talent from the surrounding area. The competition has been running for nearly 40 years.

The Monroe Symphony League is holding its book fair Saturday, June 3rd, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, June 4th,  1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and again the following weekend June 9th and 10th.

Monroe Symphony League Provides Spring Reading

The Monroe Symphony League is hosting their Spring Book Sale this Saturday and Sunday, March 4th and 5th, and again the following weekend.  The Book Sale will take place in two buildings located at 320 North 4th Street. 

  The Spring Book Sale will have books of all categories from cookbooks to fantasy to nonfiction and are priced at about a tenth of the retail price with some books for only a dime. Along with books, there will also be magazines, sheet music, and CDs.

With summer fully underway, many people are looking for the next good book to help them pass the time. Keeping that in mind, the Monroe Symphony League is holding a Book Fair this weekend, June 4 and 5, and next weekend June 11 and 12.

The book sale helps fund the Symphony League's projects throughout the year. Other projects the League sponsors include: the annual "Sound Safari" for local schools, the "Marjorie Stricklin Emerging Artist Competition", and the new formed "New Music on the Bayou Festival" which is currently underway.

Contestants from across Louisiana are competing this weekend in the 2016 Marjorie Stricklin Emerging Artists Competition, for a chance to perform with the Monroe Symphony Orchestra during its next season. 

It's an annual event established by the Monroe Symphony League and the Monroe Symphony Orchestra to promote and encourage excellence in musical performance.

The Monroe Symphony League Fall Book Fair opens this Saturday.

The fair has gathered its biggest collection yet of books, magazines, series, audiobooks, and more.  Proceeds benefit the league's projects such as Sound Safari, a musical instrument introduction for area elementary schools.

"A great selection of militia books and several series that are in mint condition are some of the best finds you'll see this weekend," says MSL member Scott Legan.

On opening day, there is a $2 fee for adult shoppers at the fair, located at 320 North Fourth in Monroe.

Shelves Stocked For Summer Book Fair

Looking for the perfect read this summer?  Book enthusiasts find the answer in the Monroe Symphony League Book Fair.  Shelves full of paperbacks, hardbacks, and large-print editions are available beginning Saturday.

MSL member Jorenda Stone shares that topics cover a great variety of interests.  "Romance, fiction, and cookbooks are always popular favorites," she said.  "This is a perfect time to grab a few reads for the weekend or a trip to the beach."
