The woman assaulted at a Louisiana car wash last week has died.

Ferriday Police Investigator Richard Madison told the Natchez Democrat on Thursday that Teresa Poole succumbed to her injuries. He said he was told about her death that morning by the coroner and didn't have any other information yet.

The May 9 attack was captured on security video, which Madison says led to the arrest Tuesday of 20-year-old Donteale K. Carter, who has a Friday morning hearing on a charge of second-degree battery.

Ouachita Parish will vote this weekend on a tax renewal to fund the Ouachita Parish Mosquito Abatement District. The mosquito abatement scientist monitor dangerous diseases spread by insects such as Zika, West Nile and St. Louis encephalitis, Yellow Fever and others.

The tax renewal generates nearly 2 million dollars per year that is used in scientific insect control and disease monitoring. The area is sprayed by trucks and airplanes when mosquito numbers meet certain criteria.  The last major mosquito disease outbreak was a West Nile outbreak in 2001.

Monroe's Southside Economic Development District (SEDD) is in the planning phase to lure a casino to the Ouachita River in Monroe. Monroe lawmaker Marcus Hunter  has indicated he will  introduce a bill to make the Ouachita River eligible to house a riverboat casino.  Numerous reports say the  DiamondJacks Casino in Bossier is a likely target.  If SEDD is courting DiamondJacks it better hurry and put a ring on it because Robert is also calling on the casino and is much closer to sealing the deal.

Less than three months after Union Parish was carved from Ouachita as a new political entity, William McKay died there intestate leaving a grieving widow and two-year old daughter.  In 1839, Union Parish was essentially wilderness and sparsely populated, the surge of immigration by settlers from eastern states just over the horizon.  McKay owned a store on the Ouachita River, either at what would later be called Alabama Landing or farther south at Ouachita City, or maybe even at the mouth of Bayou de l'Outre.

An unrestrained man lost his life this morning after the vehicle he was driving traveled off the road and began to overturn.

Shortly after 5:30 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 596 just north of Lake Providence. The preliminary investigation revealed a 1999 Lexus SUV, driven by 65-year-old Willie Williams of Lake Providence, was traveling north on LA Hwy 596 when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the road. Williams then overcorrected his vehicle, traveled across both lanes, entered a ditch, and began overturning.
