A law enforcement officer charged with murder in a 6-year-old boy's fatal shooting is heading to trial.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday for Derrick Stafford's trial in Marksville, the central Louisiana town where he and another deputy city marshal fired at a car during a November 2015 traffic stop.

The shooting killed first-grader Jeremy Mardis and critically wounded his father, Christopher Few. Video from a police officer's body camera showed Few had his hands raised inside his car while the deputies fired.

The state wildlife agent who was shot five times last month in Morehouse Parish is scheduled to be released from a Shreveport hospital. 25–year- old Tyler Wheeler was shot after questioning a motorist.

Doctors have been calling Wheeler "the miracle patient" says Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries spokesperson Adam Einck , and is expected to make a full recovery. Wheeler’s father says doctors are pleased with his overall condition. Einck says that after being discharged Wheeler will rehabilitate in a facility in Mississippi.

A veteran West Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's deputy is among three people killed in a shooting in Pointe Coupee Parish.

Pointe Coupee Sheriff Bud Torres says it happened about 4 p.m. Tuesday at a home in Glynn, Louisiana.

Torres says the deputy and her daughter were killed in the shooting, as was the suspected shooter - an estranged neighbor.

(AP) — Black Lives Matter activist DeRay Mckesson is suing the city of Baton Rouge over his arrest last month at a protest of a black man fatally shot during a struggle with two white police officers.

Mckesson was among nearly 200 protesters arrested in Baton Rouge following the July 5 shooting death of 37-year-old Alton Sterling.

A class-action lawsuit filed Thursday in federal court on behalf of Mckesson and two other arrested protesters, accuses the city and police officials of violating their civil rights and using excessive force.
