"There are other factors that should influence your purchasing decisions," says Courtney Hornsby, President of the West Monroe West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce. She say often paying just a little more helps keep local employees working and supports area families and businesses.

WMWO Chamber Announces Small Business Award Winners

The West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce announced the winners of its Fourth Annual Small Business Awards.

Award winners were announced at a Small Business Awards breakfast held May 4 at the West Monroe Convention Center. The awards program was held in celebration of National Small Business Week, celebrated around the country May 1-5, 2017. This year's Small Business Awards were presented by Glenwood Regional Medical Center. Awards were presented in six different categories.

Owning and operating a small business can be challenging. In an effort to both help local businesses navigate these challenges and to celebrate Small Business Week, the West Monroe West Ouachita Chamber of commerce is teaming up with the Louisiana Small Business Development Center. 

The two organizations are offering information, workshops, and resources to open to nearly 7,000 local business owners throughout the month of May.


In the wake of the floodwaters, area schools are in desperate need of school supplies lost or damaged by the high waters.

The West Monroe/West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with the Adopt-A-School organization to organize a community-wide school supply drive.

The United Way of Northeast Louisiana's 2-1-1 service is helping coordinate volunteers with those who need help. The free call can be made from a mobile or land line phone.

First Baptist Church of West Monroe is taking applications for help, and applications from volunteers online.

Meet the Candidates

Fall elections are right around the corner and not just for the Louisiana Governor's race. Local races directly impact northeast Louisiana.

KEDM and the West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce will host a candidates' "Meet and Greet" on Tuesday, September 29 at the West Monroe Convention Center from 5 :30 to 7 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

Traditional Celtic music, authentic dance, and educational workshops abound in the 11th Annual Northeast Louisiana Celtic Festival.

"We're celebrating 11 years of music, dance, and storytelling," says festival founder Doyle Jeter.  "This year, a special event we're hosting is a rugby exhibition on the festival grounds."

The festival is a family-fun event with special attractions for children throughout the day.  

Gates open at 10 a.m. at Kiroli Park.  Festival activities are free, however, there is a 50-cent per person admission to the park.
