The trial in the case of the State of Louisiana v. Bobby Joe Brown, Jr. began on Monday, April 4 in the Ouachita Parish Courthouse.
The defendant, Bobby Joe Brown, Jr., was charged with one count of aggravated rape, two counts of sexual battery, and one count of oral sexual battery.
Testimony in the trial began on Wednesday and ended on Friday. The State presented testimony from multiple witnesses, including the victim, family members of the victim, law enforcement investigators, and an expert witness. The defendant took the stand and testified in his own defense.
After the testimonies, the jury deliberated for less than three hours before returning a guilty verdict.
The defendant faces life imprisonment at hard labor without the benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence for the charge of aggravated rape. For the two counts of sexual battery, the law provides for a sentence of 25 to 99 years at hard labor without the benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
The defendant will return to court on June 21 for sentencing.
Assistant District Attorneys Mike Fontenot and Kalee Moore tried the case on behalf of the State. The defendant was represented by Attorney Jay Nolan. The Honorable Scott Leehy presided over the trial and will conduct sentencing.
