City of West Monroe to host solar eclipse viewing event on April 8

WEST MONROE – The City of West Monroe will host a Solar Eclipse event on Monday, April 8. The public is invited to join the City of West Monroe for “Things are Looking UP! An Eclipse SOLARbration” at West Monroe City Hall from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, April 8.

The eclipse is set to begin at 12:30 p.m. with the peak being at 1:49 p.m. and ending at 3:10 p.m. West Monroe is estimated to have 94.7 percent totality.

Beginning at noon that day, there will be a NASA Livestream airing in Council Chambers, located on the first floor of City Hall. Other activities include:

• 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Eclipse Viewer Craft with Mayor Staci Mitchell (bring your own cereal box).

• Noon to 1 p.m. – KTVE and KARD Chief Meteorologist Jarod Floyd will present an eclipse talk and Q&A.

• Blue Taco Food Truck and Kona Ice will be on site during the event.

Solar Eclipse glasses are on sale for $5 each at West Monroe City Hall and the Kiroli Park gatehouse.
