Over 200 works of art from area students are set to be reproduced on a mile-long stretch of the Trenton Street Seawall in West Monroe.
The concept was pulled together by University of Louisiana at Monroe art instructor Brooke Foy. "I had grown up in West Monroe and was familiar with the wall. I moved back a couple years ago, to a neighborhood near the seawall, and began looking at this project as a possibility," she said.
The artwork selected is from middle and high school art students in Ouachita Parish. "The students created an image from about 10 possible themes including things like family, faith, community," said Foy.
College art students and community members begin reproducing the art onto the seawall panels this summer. Foy says the project should be complete by the end summer or early fall.
