"Charlie Brown" at SYAA Brings Laughs, Insight

Gayle Hoover Frick
The cast of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" performing on Vocal Vibes at KEDM.

Charlie Brown has a rough life. Football is definitely not his sport, things at school never go right, and he can't even get any respect from his dog.

Those themes kept audiences reading the stories of Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang in over 16,000 comic strips drawn by Charles Schultz over 50 years. Audiences identify with poor Charlie Brown's troubles, but they also dare to hope with him for something better just around the corner. Though Schultz died in 2000, his stories continue to live on as the strips appear daily in newspapers around the world.

In 1967, Clark Gesner brought Peanuts to the stage as a musical, bringing together many favorite characters and the same sense of optimism defeating despair.

The Strauss Youth Academy for the Arts has a new production of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown September 12-13 and September 18-19 at the Strauss Youth Center for the Performing Arts.

Members of the cast joined KEDM for live performances during Vocal Vibes  on Wednesday, September 9.
