The Monroe Symphony Orchestra opens its 45th season Saturday at the Jack Howard Theatre.
The concert, titled An Evening of Gershwin, features the music of George Gershwin. "His music relates to us. It's Americana," says MSO conductor Clay Couturiaux. "These four selections we're performing are his most popular symphonic pieces."
The concert opens with Cuban Overture. The orchestra is joined by accompanist Richard Seiler for Rhapsody In Blue. Selections from Porgy & Bess highlight a portion of the evening. The program closes with An American In Paris.
An opening gala is at 6 p.m., with the concert starting at 7:30 p.m.
