The Louisiana Opera company is again hosting an intimate performance and dinner on the weekend of Valentine's Day, with Rodgers and Hammerstein's beloved musical Carousel.
The concert-style production on Friday, February 12 features excerpts from the full show, including songs "If I Loved You," the "Soliloquy," and "You'll Never Walk Alone."
The cast features baritone Corey McKern, familiar to northeast Louisiana audiences from his performance of the Barber in The Barber of Seville in June 2015. Soprano Betsy Uschkrat portrays Julie to McKern's Billy in the poignant story of star-crossed lovers. The cast also features Tyler Smith and Ron Ulen, as well as soloists Claire Vangelisti and Lynn Clark; and pianist Richard Seiler.
"This piece has such a beautiful, rich score, and so many wonderful emotional moments. We're so fortunate to have a varied and talented cast to perform it," explains Director Mark Clark.
The 7 p.m. performance features a full dinner from Chef Cory Bahr, and takes place at Kilbourne Hall at Grace Episcopal Church in Monroe.
The Louisiana Opera company specializes in productions in small venues showcasing talent from around the U.S. and northeast Louisiana.
