The Monroe Symphony Orchestra paid tribute to the music of Elton John and Billy Joel, Saturday February 13.
“The music of Elton John and Billy Joel really lends itself towards symphonic background,” says conductor Clay Couturiaux. The Symphony incorporates a full “rock” band in order to honor the two singer-songwriters. Band members include Juilan Jones, Larry Anderson, and Bach Norwood.
“We’re not really trying to reenact or imitate what they’ve done,” Couturiaux continues. “but we’re just hear to celebrate their music.” Also joining the Symphony are three regional singers.
“The performers themselves have their own personalities. I really want these three singers to put themselves into it, to show their personalities through the music,” explains Couturiaux.
Former American Idol contestant Krista Bettevy, Northwestern University Musical Theater major Chase Miller, and Monroe’s -- and KEDM's -- own Josh Madden will each ply their own styles and interpretations of the songs.
