KEDM Launches Regional Music Format "The Boot"

90.3 KEDM Public Radio debuts a new music format this Memorial Day Weekend.  The new format is called The Boot, a reference to the nickname for the shape of Louisiana.

"The Boot" features Louisiana artists and regional favorites.  It's a Southern gumbo made up of blues, soul, funk, zydeco, and swamp favorites.  Local favorite bands are also part of the mix.

The new evening format features Louisiana artists such as Doug Duffey, General Patterson, GG Shinn, The Neville Brothers, Buddy Guy, Trombone Shorty, Marcia Ball, and Wayne Toups; plus southern legends B.B. King, Delbert McClinton, Otis Redding, and Robert Johnson.

KEDM General Manager Jay Curtis says, "The Boot is the musical heartbeat of the Delta. We're excited to feature Louisiana's favorite artists with music that reflects our region, and engage a new audience that appreciates music of the North Delta."

Listeners can get a taste of the new format across all of Memorial Day Weekend beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 24.

Jazz and Big Bands still have a home on KEDM on Friday nights. Beloved KEDM volunteer Richard Harrison's Mostly Big Bands continues on Friday evenings from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., followed by David Miller's Swingin' Down the Lane at 9 p.m. Friday.

KEDM resumes regular programming on Monday afternoon at 3 p.m. with All Things Considered from NPR News.

The Boot resumes its regular evening schedule on Monday May 27 at 7 p.m.
