Rising blues guitarist D.K. Harrell has signed with Alligator Records. The Louisiana-born artist, known for his distinctive blend of soulful vocals and electric guitar, is quickly gaining recognition as one of the top new voices in blues. Harrell's debut album is scheduled for release in June 2025.
Harrell, 27, has earned praise for his unique style, which blends traditional blues with a modern “funk blues” twist. Living Blues has called him “a leading light of the younger generation of blues artists,” while Vintage Guitar describes his sound as “musically adventurous.” His guitar work is known for its emotional depth and precision, while his powerful vocals have made him a standout performer on the blues circuit.
“Alligator is the main label to be on in the blues,” Harrell said. “I’m overwhelmed in a positive way.” His debut album under the label is produced by Christoffer “Kid” Anderson.
Harrell's journey began in Ruston, Louisiana, where he first discovered the blues at a young age. Inspired by the music of B.B. King, he began playing guitar at 12 and was performing professionally by age 16. His debut album, The Right Man, released in 2023, received critical acclaim and led to a Blues Music Award for Best Emerging Artist in 2024.
Harrell has already toured the U.S. and Europe, building a growing fanbase with his energetic live shows. According to Alligator Records president Bruce Iglauer, Harrell is a “mesmerizing talent” who has quickly transitioned from opening act to headliner at major festivals.
