One in five people in northeast Louisiana struggle with hunger.
The Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana is hosting "Empty Bowls" on Saturday, January 28 to raise money to provide food for the people of northeast Louisiana. The event is will be at the Ouachita Candy Company Warehouse in downtown Monroe from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event is held around the country to held raise awareness and funds for the people in American communities who are not getting the food they need. This event, coined a serving of food, art, and music, will have 270 ceramic bowls made by local artists for the guests to take as a reminder of the many empty bowls in the community.
Eleven area restaurants provide food, and the event will have live music. Games and crafts will be at the Kid's Corner. Tickets to attend are $30 or $15 to simply eat without picking out a bowl.
"We work with 12 parishes in the region to provide meals to those who are going without," says Sarah Hoffman, with the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana.
Proceeds from the event will go to benefit the Food Bank as it continues helping those in the northeast Louisiana region. More information on Empty Bowls and the Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana can be found here.
