Fighting Hunger with the Food Bank

foodbanknela.org
The Food Bank serves 43,000 people each year.

September is the National Hunger Action Month, and the Northeast Louisiana Food Bank has prepared many opportunities over September to serve the hungry in the community.

In Northeast Louisiana alone there are over 73,000 people facing hunger. The NELA Food Bank is inviting the community to stand up against this fact during the month of September.

The first event of the month will take place September 7th, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The community is invited to go eat out at WhataBurger in Monroe that night, and a portion of their proceeds will be donated to the Food Bank.

The next opportunity to help will come Thursday, September 14th. The Food Bank is inviting everyone to snap a selfie of themselves wearing orange as a way to raise awareness that one in five people in the community struggle with hunger.

The following Thursday, the community can rock out and help out at Rock N Box Volunteer Night. Josh Madden and his band will be playing live music while volunteers box donated food at the Food Bank from 6 to 8 p.m.

The Food Bank is ending this year's Hunger Action Month with the Painting with a Purpose September 28th. This event will take place at Painting with a Twist from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and will allow painters to relax and create a 16 x 20 masterpiece step by step.

Throughout the entire month community members are encouraged to drop their spare change off at any Centric Federal Credit Union. These donations will help the Food Bank continue to provide meals to those in need.

More information on all that the Food Bank has planned can be found here or by calling 318-322-3567.
