Tropical Storm Harvey rolled through the Monroe area last week it left behind a lot of standing water. The results of this water not moving are mosquitoes. It takes roughly 8-10 days for mosquitoes to start taking over and that time has almost made it to the twin cities.
"We don't exactly what will happen with the mosquitoes," said Shannon Rider, Director at The Ouachita Mosquito Abatement.
Some places will be a little worse off than others, "It's based on where we stood before and where we have standing water now and how long it sits there," Rider said.
If a tidal wave of mosquitoes does hit Monroe then it will be in the middle of this week.
Residents do need to take some precautions even though these mosquitoes should not carry any diseases.
Try to drain any standing water around your area in order to help decrease the amount of mosquitoes. Screens on the windows and doors to keep them out of the houses and make sure to wear repellent with deet.
"These mosquitoes love cool weather," Rider said. So as long as these fall like temperatures are around the mosquitoes will be to.
