The Wellspring Alliance of NELA and the NELA Food Bank are teaming up to take a new approach on raising awareness about homelessness. Friday, January 19, the Wellspring will be hosting Cardboard Box City from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next day at First United Methodist Church Monroe.
Cardboard Box City is an event that invites community members to come out and set up a cardboard box to live in for one night. The night will be fun with activities and competitions, such as a balloons filled with water to take care of as babies and a competition between 'houses'. The event will also shine a light on the real homelessness in the community. In 2017 alone the Wellspring has made contact 185 homeless people in Northeast Louisiana.
Registration for Cardboard Box City is $10 and t-shirts can be purchased as well during the event. More information can be found here.
