The 9th Annual Off the Wall is April 13 from 6-9 p.m. at the Masur Museum of Art.
"Proceeds from Off the Wall support our educational programming, exhibitions, and collections," says Evelyn Stewart, Executive Director of the Masur Museum of Art. Tickets include entrance to the auction, live music, and a chance in the Bon Voyage Trip Raffle.
"Most of the art is from local artists, " says Jenny Burnham, Curator of Education and Public Programming for the museum. "We put a nationwide call out every year, and we get back a little of everything: photography, paintings, sculptures, mixed media, and all kinds of art."
Stewart notes the museum is still taking submissions for the auction. "Artists have a choice to take 50% of commission or donate 100% of the proceeds to the museum." Artists also receive a ticket to the event. The auction usually features around 100 pieces of art.
The fundraiser features live music from Rocket 88 out of Oxford, Mississippi, as well as two raffles. The first is the Bon Voyage Trip Raffle. The winner receives a trip to the destination of their choice for a value up to $3,000. The second raffle is for a live, on-site painting by artist Julie Crews, whose works have been featured in past Off the Wall events.
The event is also a chance to check out part of the current exhibition, Afghan War Rugs. This exhibit showcases rugs which directly reflect the war that has been happening around the creators of the rugs for decades. The exhibit runs until June 23.
Artists can submit work by contacting Jenny Burnham at 318-329-2237. More information about the Masur Museum of Art and Off the Wall 2018 is available is here.
