The Ouachita Parish Public Library is hosting SummerFest Saturday, May 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Main Branch. SummerFest kicks off the summer reading challenge at the library with a free, family-friendly event.
The Main Branch Library welcomes motivational rapper Big Al Cherry and percussionist Elizabeth "Lady Chops" Vidos. At Summerfest, kids have the chance to make egg shakers and harmonicas so that they can play along with the performers. Registration for the library summer reading challenge is available at the event.
The Summer Reading Challenge focuses on the importance of reading at any age. Participants can log the number of pages they read and receive prizes for reaching goals. Contestants can also complete challenges with their families for challenge points. "We provide participants with specific challenges, not only just to read books, but to become involved in the community, their home, and the library," says CJ Sartor.
SummerFest is Saturday, May 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Main Branch. More information and a full list of all the activities at the Ouachita Parish Public Library system is available here.
