The Rose Theatre is hosting a matinee concert featuring The Bad Monkey Brass Band September 2. The benefit concert is part of "The Blooming of the Rose," an effort to bring The Rose Theatre back to life in Bastrop.
"The Rose Theatre is a cultural venue for performing arts, such as theatre and concerts," says Charles Evans of the Rose. The theatre started as a vaudeville theatre in the 1930s and has since operated as a movie theatre and performing arts venue.
In recent years, the theatre has faced financial hardships due to budget cuts. "The Blooming of the Rose" is an effort to re-open the theatre and bring it back to life within the community. The fundraising concert was chosen as an entertaining way to involve the community while also raising funds for the theatre.
The Bad Monkey Brass Band was created when members Keith Joyner and Mike Leonard saw an opening in the Northeast Louisiana community for a New Orleans-style brass band. After talking about it, the two decided to create The Bad Monkey Brass Band, which currently has nine members.
More information about the Bad Monkey Brass Band is available here. Tickets for the fundraising concert are available by calling Charles Evans at 318-283-3101 or the Bastrop Morehouse Visitor Center at 318-283-0911.
