Northeast Louisiana Delta African American Heritage Museum and Chennault Aviation and Military Museum partnered Tuesday, September 11 to remember the men and women who make the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.
The museums decided to combine presentations from the previous year's remembrance services to create an event that honors first responders and the military men and women who are still deployed in the ongoing war on terrorism.
The event goals were as follows:
1. Teach/remind younger generations what happened on 9-11 through audio footage, speakers and a team-building activity. After the program, we participate in a team-building activity to collectively spell the message of remembrance.
2. Emphasize first responders’ roles and sacrifices on 9-11. Honor and recognize those who risk their lives on a daily basis to ensure the safety and well-being of our community.
3. Teach about military men and women who decided to join the service as a result of 9-11. Teach students that there are still active duty military serving overseas today: Some have been wounded, some have made the ultimate sacrifice, and some are from northeast Louisiana.
4. Community unites to honor and remember 9-11. The tragedy of 9-11 brought America together. We encourage everyone to look for unifying opportunities in everyday life and remember that spirit of unity.
