Dogue: Getting Chic for Our Shelter is a runway show benefiting SOS Pets of Ouachita. The party is Saturday, October 20, at 8 p.m., and features live music, dancing, and a silent auction.
SOS Pets of Ouachita is an organization raising money to build a new animal shelter for Ouachita Parish. The current shelter was built in the 1950s, and according to SOS board member Blanche Betz, the upkeep has been not been up to her standards. "Joan Cooper Hampton pulled a group together in January of 2017 to raise private funds to fund and build a new shelter," says Betz. "Thanks to people like Katie and The Parlor House, it's been awesome. We're at about $260,000 towards our goal."
Katie Anzalone, the owner of The Parlor House in Monroe, became involved after seeing a need for a new shelter. "I've always had a very soft spot for animals and have done some fostering," she says. Anzalone decided to combine her love for animals with her business and other passions. Dogue: Getting Chic for Our Shelter was created as a way for Anzalone and others to raise funds while also having fun.
The event features choreography from Amelia Haynes and live music from Astro Motel. Joel Jordan, lead singer of Astro Motel, says the event is completely unique. "It's unlike anything I've seen in Monroe before. It was exciting for the band to get to do what we do to help out and entertain a different crowd."
