40th Pumpkin Bash Rocks Main Branch Library

Each library branch has a booth set up with crafts and activities.

The 40th Annual Pumpkin Bash is Saturday, October 20 from 10-2 at the Main Branch of the Ouachita Parish Public Library system. The family-friendly event features local authors, crafts, and activities for readers young and old.

“It’s the 40th anniversary for the original, all-free family fall festival, and we are committed to making it better than ever,” said Robin Toms, library director. “Children are invited to go on an adventure by visiting the tent from each branch. When they complete their adventure card, they win a free book to take home and keep.”

Author Jasper Price is presenting three programs on his children's book Zombie Asockalypse. Children get to hear from the author as well as learn how to make their own zombie sock. The presentations are at 10:15 a.m., 11:15 a.m., and 1 p.m.

The annual costume contest is returning, with the new "Best Book Character" category. Other categories are based on age groups, with an additional award for "Best Costumed Family." Registration for the costume contest is open 10-11:30, and judging begins at noon. Winners in each category receive trophies.

Each child receives a bookmark when they enter. Kids can then visit each branches' booths for fun crafts and activities. Once they have finished each craft, they receive a stamp on their bookmark. They can then turn the bookmark in for a free book.

More information about Pumpkin Bash is available at the Ouachita Parish Public Library website or on Facebook.
