Local non-profit organization, The WillPower Foundation, is hosting the fundraiser, Denim and Diamonds, on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. There will be live music, silent and live auctions, lots of games, and raffle tickets. All proceeds from the event will be donated to St. Jude's Children Hospital and cancer research.
The WillPower Foundation is a local non-profit dedicated to raising money for St. Jude's Children Hospital. The organization was created in 2002 by the McGee family, who lost their son William to cancer earlier that year. Their goal is to continue helping St. Jude in its research to find a cure for childhood cancer and to be an advocate in North Louisiana for those children who are unable to fight for themselves anymore.
Denim and Diamonds has been one of the group's biggest fundraisers over the past few years. Ashley Able, a representative of WillPower, says that she has enjoyed her time working at the fundraiser in the past because of its success. "We have raised over $450,000 which has allowed families sticken by childhood-cancer to go to St. Jude, get treatments, and stay there free of charge."
This year, the entertainment will be Dr Zarr's Amazing Funk Monsters, a cover-band from Memphis that will be playing hit songs. For dinner, cochon de lait catered by Dan Blakeny will be served throughout the night along with drinks and adult beverages. Later on, there will be an auction that includes trips to Europe and designer bags.
Denim and Diamonds will be held at the Monroe Civic Center in the Conference Hall on 401 Lea Joyner Memorial Expressway. Tickets are $60 per person. Guests are encouraged to come in their best denim jeans to stick witht the theme.
