As we begin to get older, our needs change and we may need a little more help from others. Dr. Anita Sharman talks with Amanda Boatright, administrator at Lagniappe Healthcare Services, about finding the right healthcare services for older adults.
INTERVIEW HIGHLIGHTS
On what services to provide to aging Baby Boomers
The Meals on Wheels programs, the Local Counsel on Agings, Home Help Services, skilled nursing facilities, and outpatient therapy. These are all highly qualified options to those in need as we are all growing older.
On what Amanda's facility provides highly skilled nursing care
Skilled nursing care is an intensive nursing and therapy program where we offer certain services five days a week. These programs include speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, as well as great social activities that all patients get to be involved in.
What others come to Amanda's facility for
Some people come for skilled nursing due to a surgery or complication from a surgery that they had. This can include helping them deal with a stroke, need help walking again, have speaking or swallowing issues. Most people are much stronger after they have come in and received treatment.
Insurances that cover skilled nursing care
Most insurances do cover skilled nursing care. Medicare covers the first 20 days at 100% and after that, they cover the next 80 days at 80%. There are many other insurances that cover treatment, but medicare is probably the best option.
