Traveling Scholar on Crossing Borders

Dr. Lesli Pace
Dr. Diana I.Bowen is an Assistant Professor of Communication at the University of Houston-Clear Lake.

Tuesday, March 14th, the University of Louisiana Monroe is continuing its Traveling Scholar Program with a presentation from Dr. Diana Bowen on the life of Gloria Anzaldua and the idea of geographic and psychological borderlands.  The community lecture will be held at 6:00 p.m. in Stubbs 100 and is free to the public.

Dr. Bowen's speech will discuss the changes to Gloria Anzaldua's birth certificate and how it contrasts with the ideas in her short story, 'Her Name Never Got Called'. The complexity of this document is what draws Dr. Bowen to study Anzaldua's life. Dr. Bowen will also focus on the mix of cultures on the Texas and Mexico border.

The Traveling Scholar Program allows students, especially in the communications program, to experience many different cultures and teaching styles without leaving the campus. This is useful for students who have not been able to branch outside of the Northeast Louisiana area.

For more information on the Traveling Scholar program, email Dr. Lesli Pace at pace@ulm.edu.
