The Mobile Health Unit is funded in part by grants from the Living Well Foundation.

Bringing healthcare to Ouachita and the 8 surrounding parishes is a daunting task made easier by the Living well Foundation.  The Foundation holds a luncheon on March 6th showcasing the 12 grantees for 2016, as well as to provide a glimpse at future projects. President and CEO, Alice Prophit has been with the foundation since 2013.

“I continue to be awed by the hearts of those who serve,” says Prophit. The Foundation was created out of the sale of Glenwood Regional Medical Center to IASIS Healthcare in 2006, and helps provide funding to local non-profit agencies that help provide health services to area residents. Its main focus is on providing services to children, mental health issues, schools, child nutrition, and general health and wellness.

“Most of the focus of the board of directors goes to the health and well-being of its citizens through a community needs assessment in those areas. It involves their well-being, their health – including their mental health, making sure that services are available, especially to those who are underserved, those who may not get access to services, those who may not get enough access to services, or even have providers in their area. We want to make sure that we are helping to provide funding so that non-profit agencies can go out and provide those services with the grants we make to them,” says Prophit.

At the luncheon, the foundation will provide updates on two of its other initiatives: School-based health centers, and the partnership with the University of Louisiana at Monroe’s Dental   Hygiene Clinics. The foundation has just signed a 5 year commitment to help fund those programs. The event is usually seats over 200 people.

To obtain a seat at the luncheon call 318-396-5066, or visit their website. Seats are $15, and are selling fast.
