The University of Louisiana Monroe is set to hold an Emergency Disaster Drill on June 9, 1:00 p.m. This exercise is a collaborative effort between the ULM Kitty Degree School of Nursing, ULM Police, the City of Monroe, Acadian Ambulance, and Bear’s Wrecker Service. The drill will take place in the back parking lot of Kitty Degree Hall, located at 701 University Ave. on the ULM campus.
The drill will feature simulated vehicle crashes, with Monroe Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance participating in the exercise. ULM nursing students will act as "victims" of the emergency, while local high school students enrolled in the Kitty Degree School of Nursing Bootcamp will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning.
According to ULM Assistant Professor of Nursing Amy Kincannon, the joint disaster training is imperative to increase proficiency during actual emergency disasters. The drill will make our local emergency response community more prepared to handle real disasters, which is critical for the safety and well-being of our community. Additionally, we hope to inspire high school students to pursue careers in emergency response fields.
