Ouachita Green, together with Keep Ouachita Parish, Keep Monroe, Keep West Monroe, Keep ULM Beautiful and Drax, is organizing the Water Sweep 2023. This annual event aims to clean up the waterways in Ouachita Parish and will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2023, from 8-11am.
Volunteers are welcome to join the event, which will be held at ten different locations within Ouachita Parish. These locations include Black Bayou Canal at Tinseltown, Lazarre Park, Sterlington Boat Dock, ULM at Bayou Desiard, Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge, 165 North at Bayou Desiard, Forsythe Boat Dock, Bawcomville Rec, Moon Lake Boat Dock & Restoration Park Canal. Ouachita Green will provide pickup supplies, but more kayaks or boats are welcome. Volunteers on the banks are also needed.
The Water Sweep is an important event that helps remove debris from the waterways in our area. Every year, between 12,000 to 16,000 pounds of debris are collected from these waterways. By volunteering for this event, you can help keep our waterways clean and healthy.
To volunteer for the Water Sweep 2023, simply sign up on the Ouachita Green website at ouachitagreen.org. While volunteers can show up on the day of the event, registration is encouraged.
