NELA Children’s Museum and the Monroe Chamber of Commerce have joined forces to bring STEM training to Ouachita Parish schools. Thanks to a generous grant from the Monroe Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the Northeast Louisiana Children’s Museum will be able to enhance hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education in elementary schools across Ouachita Parish. This exciting initiative aims to make learning fun and engaging for students while equipping them with valuable skills for the future.
Melissa Saye, Director of the Children’s Museum, expressed her gratitude for the grant, emphasizing the importance of providing students with interactive experiences that complement classroom learning. She highlighted the role of this partnership in nurturing the potential future workforce by sparking students’ interest in STEM fields from an early age.
Roy Heatherly, CEO of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the significance of collaboration between local businesses, non-profits, and educators in bringing innovative learning experiences to children. He underscored the Chamber’s commitment to fostering the next generation of workforce and commended the program for introducing STEM initiatives in a fun and exciting manner to young students.
The STEM program will cater to students from kindergarten through 5th grade, with more than a thousand students from the Ouachita Parish School System already benefiting from this initiative during the current school year.
