City of Monroe

(Monroe, LA) - The City of Monroe is currently experiencing temporary discoloration in the water supply and a noticeable chlorine smell due to the routine annual disinfectant changeover. This process involves adjusting chlorine concentrations and conducting citywide flushing to maintain the health and safety of the City’s water distribution system.

The taste and odor are purely an aesthetic issue and do not affect the safety of the City’s water. The City’s water remains safe to drink and use for all purposes.

The City of Monroe Water System is carefully managing and reducing chlorine concentration levels and shortening the duration of the changeover process to minimize impact to residents. Extensive citywide flushing is being conducted to expedite the clearing of discoloration from the water supply. The temporary issue should resolve within a few days. The City is closely monitoring the water system to ensure adherence to quality and safety standards.

During this brief time, the Water System encourages residents to run cold water from taps for several minutes should any discoloration be present.

We understand the inconveniences and challenges that this may cause, and we appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. For any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Daren Johnson, Water Treatment Plant Supervisor: (318) 366-1953.
